About Us

The Big Event - formerly Bobcat Build - is an annual tradition housed within Leadership and Service that works towards bridging the gap between the Texas State community and our San Marcos neighbors through community service. In 2003, Texas State University held the first-ever Big Event as a way to say “Thank You” to our surrounding community. Each spring since then, hundreds of Bobcat students, staff, and faculty have come together in service to show their appreciation to the community as well as create positive impact for the betterment of our community.

Mission

The Big Event strives to create and maintain a Texas State tradition of pride and unity as Bobcats come together to promote a sense of awareness and community.

Vision

The vision for our team consists of two parts - programming and impact. The Big Event team envisions our day of service event as an opportunity to bridge the gap between the Texas State community and the citizens of Hays County. In addition, service does not start or stop with this event, nor does it have any limitations. As our team engages planning and service opportunities throughout the year, The Big Event works to serve as a prime example of what it means to live out the Texas State value of service and leadership for the public good.

Staffing

As part of the Leadership and Service unit of Student Involvement and Engagement, our Big Event is planned and executed each year through our student-led planning team. This student organization is comprised of 4 student directors and approximately 40-60 student committee members. Throughout the year, our team dedicates a year of teambuilding and preparation for The Big Event as well as provide opportunities for continued service.
