Volunteers

Get ready for a day of service, gratitude, and fun! Any member of the Texas State University community can be a volunteer - students, faculty, and staff. This year's event will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Below are some details and tips about what you could expect as a volunteer.

What happens at Bobcat Build's Big Event?

Prior to your service, all volunteers will check in at our Kickoff event where you will be able to gather with your team, hydrate, collect your tools, pick up your t-shirt, and receive final instructions from our staff.

After Kickoff, volunteers will be released to their assigned jobsites and complete a maximum of four service hours. Get to know your job site, work alongside your team, and have fun! Once the four hours are complete, volunteers are able to return to the Kickoff location to return any tools assigned to them. We ask all teams to stay at their jobsite until the job is complete.

How do I become a volunteer?

Easy - complete the registration at the bottom of the page to register!

Note: ALL volunteers must register individually. This is solely to help our team know where to place day-of-placement (DOP) volunteers in the event sites are missing volunteers. Don't worry though - if you are part of a team, let us know in our registration! Please note that at least one person will need to be designated as the jobsite leader. Details about being a jobsite leader can be found below.

Don't have a group? It's okay! We still welcome single volunteers to come out and serve with us! Please be aware that single volunteers will automatically be placed on our day-of placement list, meaning you will be assigned to jobsites based on availability depending on where availability opens due to volunteers no longer attending.

What is a jobsite leader and how do I become one?

Jobsite leaders (JSLs) are team leads who serve as the liaison between our staff and the site owner. They are also responsible for managing their group members, communicating any necessary information about the site and tasks to their team, and be in contact with the jobsite for any questions. Volunteers who are part of a group will be able select to be a JSL in their registration.

Identified jobsite leaders will be contacted by our staff to provide further instructions and are required to attend one mandatory training.

What kind of work do volunteers do?

Projects vary depending on the tasks requested by our jobsites. This can include beautification projects such as washing windows, painting homes, or gardening, but projects are not limited! Whatever the case, we ask all volunteers to come prepared to work hard!

What should I wear?

We always advise volunteers to wear the essentials: comfortable clothing and close-toed shoes. This can be a t-shirt, pants or leggings, and sneakers. Nonetheless, wear your Texas State or Bobcat Build gear to show your spirit! Looking to get gear for this year's event? Volunteers who register can pick up a shirt at our Kickoff! Supplies are limited; there is no guarantee that all volunteers will receive a shirt.

Keep in mind that we live in Texas and the spring days can get warm. In addition, some jobsites will involve dirt, so we recommend wearing clothing you wouldn't mind getting dirty!

Will transportation be provided?

All volunteers are required to transport themselves to and from their assigned jobsite. We highly encourage and recommend volunteers to carpool. Volunteers are also responsible for transporting their tools provided by our staff. If your site requires a large amount of tools, our team will notify you and schedule a time to have your tools delivered to your site.
